Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough or puff pastry
  • 6 oz thin-sliced deli ham
  • 4 oz sliced Swiss or Gruyère
  • 2 tbsp Dijon or honey mustard
  • 1 egg beaten with a splash of water, for egg wash
  • black pepper, garlic powder, or everything bagel seasoning

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Parchment
  • Sharp knife

Method

  1. Unroll the dough and pinch the seams into one rectangle. Spread a thin layer of mustard, leaving a 1/2-inch border along one long edge. Layer the ham, then the cheese.
  2. Roll snugly from the opposite long edge toward the border. Freeze the log 10 to 15 minutes so it slices cleanly.
  3. Cut into 1/2-inch pinwheels.
  4. Preheat to 350°F. Set the pinwheels cut-side up on parchment, brush with egg wash, and dust with seasoning. Cook 8 to 10 minutes until deep golden.

Notes

Thin layer of mustard — too much and the spirals go soggy.
Chill the log before slicing or it squashes.
Hawaiian twist: a smear of pineapple jam and Swiss.
