Ingredients

For the wedges
  • 2 large sweet potatoes cut into 1/2-inch planks
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • kosher salt and black pepper
  • cayenne a pinch, optional
For the salsa
  • 2 ripe tomatoes finely diced
  • 1/4 small red onion minced
  • 1 small jalapeño seeded and minced
  • 1/2 lime juiced
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
  • salt

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Small cookie cutter or paring knife

Method

  1. Cut the planks about 3 inches long. Press a small ghost cookie cutter into each, or round the top and taper the base freehand, nicking two eye holes.
  2. Toss the ghosts with the oil, then the spices.
  3. Preheat to 380°F. Cook in a single layer, no overlap, 10 to 14 minutes, flipping at 7, until the edges brown and a fork slides in easily.
  4. Salt immediately. Mix the salsa ingredients and serve alongside.

Notes

Oil first, then spices so the seasoning clings.
Uniform thickness for even cooking.
Imperfect ghost shapes look extra spooky.
