Ingredients

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade), room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3–4 garlic cloves, finely minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried), for garnish
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting the work surface
  • Nonstick cooking spray or a little oil, for the air fryer basket

Method

  1. Preheat and prep: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly oil or spray the air fryer basket to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  3. Roll out the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle about 10x14 inches and roughly 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Add flavor: Brush half of the garlic butter over the entire surface. Sprinkle 1/2 cup Parmesan evenly on top.
  5. Fold and slice: Fold the dough in half lengthwise to sandwich the cheese. Gently roll once to seal. Slice into 10–12 strips about 1 inch wide.
  6. Twist: Hold each strip at both ends and twist 5–6 times. If the dough resists, let it rest for 2 minutes and try again.
  7. Load the basket: Place twists in a single layer in the air fryer, leaving space between them. You’ll likely need to cook in batches.
  8. Cook: Air fry for 7–9 minutes until golden brown and crisp on the edges. Rotate halfway for even browning if your air fryer needs it.
  9. Finish: While hot, brush with the remaining garlic butter and sprinkle more Parmesan and parsley over the top.
  10. Serve: Enjoy warm with marinara, ranch, or a simple olive oil and balsamic dip.
