Preheat the air fryer: Set to 370°F (188°C). Let it heat for 3–5 minutes for best crisping.
For frozen corn dogs: Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray.
Place corn dogs in a single layer, leaving space between them. Air fry 8–10 minutes, turning halfway, until the coating is crisp and the centers are hot. For minis, start checking at 6–7 minutes.
For homemade corn dogs: Pat hot dogs dry, then insert sticks.
In a bowl, whisk cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and oil. Combine wet and dry just until smooth and thick—aim for a batter that clings well.
Coat the hot dogs: Transfer batter to a tall glass.
Dip each hot dog to coat, letting excess drip off. Lightly spray the batter with cooking spray to help it crisp in the air fryer.
Air fry homemade: Preheat to 370°F. Spray the basket, then place dipped dogs inside, spaced apart.
Air fry 10–12 minutes, turning once, until deep golden and cooked through. If the batter touches the basket, gently loosen with a spatula before flipping.
Check doneness: Corn dogs should be golden and crisp. For frozen, internal temp should reach at least 165°F (74°C).
For homemade, the batter should be fully set with no wet spots.
Serve: Rest 2 minutes so the crust sets, then serve with your favorite dips.
