The Heart Behind the Heat

I’m Jeremy, and I believe cooking should be joyful, colorful, and a little bit adventurous. While my co-founder Aurelia obsesses over precise temperatures and perfect timing (bless her), I’m the one asking “but what if we added cinnamon?” or “have you tried it with mango?”

I come to The Fryerist with a philosophy stolen straight from Prue Leith’s playbook: if it makes you smile, you’re doing it right.

My Story

Mid-30s. Home cook. Eternal optimist about kitchen experiments.

I didn’t go to culinary school. I learned to cook the way most people do – standing next to my grandmother, burning toast in university halls, attempting to impress dates with increasingly ambitious meals, and feeding a family that has opinions about everything.

My cooking journey started with curiosity rather than precision. While other people followed recipes to the letter, I was the one scribbling “more garlic!” and “try lime instead?” in the margins. Sometimes this led to brilliance. Sometimes this led to ordering takeaway. Both taught me valuable lessons.

How I Found Air Frying

My air fryer journey began not with a grand plan, but with a broken oven and a school fundraiser deadline.

I’d volunteered to make three dozen samosas for my daughter’s event. The oven died the night before. In a panic, I borrowed my neighbor’s air fryer – a machine I’d previously dismissed as a unitasker gadget.

Those samosas came out golden, crispy, and absolutely gorgeous. More importantly, they were fun to make. No massive pot of oil to monitor, no splatter burns, no lingering smell for three days. Just me, the air fryer, and batch after batch of perfect little parcels.

I was hooked.

My Approach to Cooking

Joy Over Perfection

Look, I test recipes. I measure things. I check temperatures. But I also believe that:

Cooking should make you happy, not stressed
Colors matter – food should look as good as it tastes
Creativity is allowed – recipes are guidelines, not laws
Mistakes teach you – some of our best recipes came from happy accidents
Sharing food is love – it’s not just about the cooking

What I Bring to The Fryerist

Warmth: I want you to feel like we’re cooking together, not like I’m lecturing you

Experimentation: I’m always asking “what if?” and testing the boundaries of what air fryers can do

Cultural exploration: I love adapting recipes from around the world for the air fryer

Realistic expectations: I cook in a real kitchen with real interruptions (kids, pets, life)

Encouragement: If I can do it, you absolutely can

My Cooking Philosophy

I learned everything I know about food from:

  • My grandmother who measured with her heart and never wrote anything down
  • Travel to places where street food vendors are the real masters
  • Mistakes that taught me more than successes ever did
  • My kids who are brutally honest critics
  • Aurelia who keeps my experiments from going completely off the rails

I believe:

  • Good food doesn’t require fancy ingredients
  • Traditional recipes can be adapted without losing their soul
  • The best cooking happens when you stop worrying
  • Everyone has a signature dish waiting to be discovered
  • Air fryers are magic (but the approachable kind)

What I Test

My specialty areas:

  • Global cuisines adapted for air frying – bringing street food home
  • Family-friendly recipes – tested on actual children with opinions
  • Creative ingredient combinations – unexpected flavors that work
  • Comfort food with a twist – making classics exciting again
  • Quick weeknight meals – because life is busy

My testing style:

  • Start with the feeling I want to create
  • Test multiple ingredient combinations
  • Adjust until it makes me genuinely excited
  • Get feedback from real humans (including harsh critics aged 7 and 10)
  • Write it up so you can recreate the magic

Beyond The Fryerist

When I’m not air frying:

  • Experimenting with spice blends from international markets
  • Watching cooking shows for inspiration (and yes, crying at Prue’s kindness on Bake Off)
  • Attempting to grow herbs that my kids promptly destroy
  • Meal planning for a family with wildly different preferences
  • Hunting for vintage cookbooks at car boot sales

My guilty pleasure: Eating cereal for dinner when no one’s watching

My signature move: Adding “just a little more” of everything

My kitchen nemesis: Anything requiring perfect uniformity (I’m working on it)

What Drives Me

I co-founded The Fryerist because I genuinely believe air frying makes cooking more accessible and more joyful.

Not everyone has the time, space, or confidence for traditional cooking methods. Not everyone wants to deal with liters of hot oil or extensive cleanup. Not everyone has formal training.

But everyone deserves to make food that tastes amazing and makes them proud.

Air fryers democratize good cooking. They remove barriers. They make the “fancy” achievable. They let you experiment without the fear factor.

And most importantly? They make cooking fun again.

My Partnership with Aurelia

Aurelia and I are cooking yin and yang.

She brings: Precision, discipline, reproducibility, technical mastery, Gordon Ramsay’s standards

I bring: Creativity, warmth, experimentation, adaptability, Prue Leith’s joy

Together, we create recipes that are:

  • Technically sound (Aurelia makes sure)
  • Actually enjoyable (I make sure)
  • Properly tested (we both make sure)
  • Genuinely achievable (real kitchens, real people)

She stops me from going too wild. I stop her from making it too serious. It works.

What I Want For You

My hope is that The Fryerist helps you:

✨ Feel confident in the kitchen, not intimidated
✨ Discover new flavors and techniques
✨ Make food that impresses yourself first, others second
✨ Enjoy the cooking process, not just the eating
✨ See mistakes as learning, not failure
✨ Create memories around food
✨ Feed yourself and others with love

Cooking isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection, creativity, and the pure satisfaction of making something delicious.
